Who is a candidate: A chin augmentation strengthens the appearance of a receding chin by increasing its projection. The goal is to improve your profile by creating a better balance between your chin and other facial features.

Procedure: An implant is inserted between the bone and chin tissue through a short external incision under your chin or through an incision made inside your mouth between the lower lip and gum.

Healing: Initial healing may include swelling or numbness. Facial movements may be temporarily somewhat restricted or impaired. You may be restricted to a soft or liquid diet for a few days. Sutures are removed 7 to 10 days postoperatively. Healing will continue for several weeks, as swelling subsides and the tissue that surrounds the implant heals.
