The procedure for permanent make-up tattooing of the eyebrows, eyelids, and lips requires two applications of color. The color is made of iron oxide, glycerin, water, and alcohol. Iron oxide is the most commonly used ingredient in all cosmetics to create color. A strong topical anesthetic is applied to minimize pain. Following the procedure, the color will be the most vibrant for the first three days. The color will then begin to heal and the top layer of skin will peel off, leaving a color that looks much softer. The color is permanent but will fade over time.
