Sclerotherapy is the technique of injecting a specific solution into dilated skin capillaries (telangiectasias). The solution irritates and destroys the inner lining of the blood vessel. This does not harm circulation, it improves it by eliminating the abnormal, unnecessary vessel. It may take three monthly sessions of treatment to achieve desirable results in a specific area of telangiectasia. Fading of the vessels is a slow process that takes one to three months. The goal is to produce a 75% to 99% improvement. The treatment does not prevent the development of new telangiectasias.
